Open Door (Parenting Teenagers Project)

For the past 45 years, Open Door – a charity providing counselling and psychotherapy services for young people living in the borough of Haringey – has been supporting the mental health and wellbeing of adolescents and young adults aged 12-24. We currently work with around 600 young people, parents and carers per year, offering services from premises in Crouch End and Tottenham, as well as in secondary schools and online.

For more than 20 years we have worked with the parents and carers of adolescents, and during this time have developed a unique evidence-based intervention to help parents and carers better deal with the challenges of parenting teenagers – the Open Door Approach to Parenting Teenagers (APT).

APT is usually only available to parents in Haringey, but we are currently able to offer the intervention to parents and carers who meet the eligibility criteria and live in the surrounding boroughs (e.g. Enfield, Barnet, Islington) as part of a research study examining the effectiveness of this manualised evidence-based model for parents of adolescents.
