NSPCC

The NSPCC support parents and families in caring for their children, we provide therapeutic services to help children move on from abuse and we help professionals make the best decisions for children, across the UK

At our London and South East regional hub, we deliver the following free direct services which are available to families in Enfield:

LTFI- Letting the Future in

sexual abuse recovery programme. This offers one to one therapeutic support to children who have experienced sexual abuse.

We complete an assessment of therapeutic need with each child which involves 4 sessions at our base in Camden, we also have sessions with an identified safe parent or carer. If the assessment suggests that it is the right time for further support then we can offer up to 24 sessions of therapeutic support, tailored to each individual child’s needs.

Important eligibility criteria

  • Child/young person is between 4-17 (up to 19 for children with additional needs)
  • The sexual abuse has been reported to children’s services and/or police
  • The child is in a stable enough place to engage with recovery work
  • There is an identified safe carer to support the child with this work
  • Live within an hours travel time of Camden
Domestic Abuse, Recovering Together (DART)

This is a group work programme for mothers and children who have experienced domestic abuse. The aim of the group is to allow both mother and child a space to talk to each other about domestic abuse, learn to communicate and rebuild their relationship. The group element helps them to feel less alone and helps them to meet peers who have been through similar experiences.

We prefer referrals to come from professionals and we begin working with each family by completing an in-depth assessment looking at how the domestic abuse has impacted and understanding their individual needs and how the relationship between mother and child has been impacted. This assessment usually involves 4-6 sessions some with mum, some with child and some joint. Then if we feel the group is a suitable intervention then the family would begin attending with up to 5 other families. The group is 2 hours long and takes place weekly for 10 weeks at our centre in Camden. Families can join from any London borough, as long as they can reach Camden within an hour of their journey time.

The important eligibility criteria to remember for DART is that:

  • The child/young person is between 7-14
  • The abuse has ended and the perpetrator is no longer living in the home or in a relationship with the mother.
  • The programme works with one mother and one child at a time. If there is more than one child, you could ask the mother if she’d like to work through the programme again at a later stage with the other children.
  • Live within one hour of travel time to Camden

PIM-Pregnancy in Mind

This is a group work programme but it is delivered virtually so parents can be referred from any location in London and the South East. The aim of the group is to support expectant parents and partners who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties or are at risk of experiencing these due to environmental factors. We support them through a combination of CBT, psychoeducation, mindfulness and also encourage peer support. We also look at supporting them to bond with their baby and develop that relationship pre-birth.

The pregnant person should be between 12 and 26 weeks pregnant when they begin the group. We can accept self-referrals for this programme. We again complete a short assessment with parents before the group begins, we also offer some postnatal check in calls as part of the service.

Important eligibility criteria:

  • Pregnant person is between 12 and 26 weeks pregnant
  • There is mild to moderate mental health need or risk of mental health difficulties
  • They have ability to access an online group programme.
